ATC Board Meeting 5/19/09

Attendees: Rosalie Escamilla, John Escamilla, Vera Ferguson, Benita Asher, Christian DuCray, Jim DuCray, Karie Smith, Harold Smith
  1. TREASURER'S REPORT

    A. JTT Spring season was profitable. Bank balance is healthy.
    B. Discussed allocating a percentage of JTT profit towards capital improvements at the courts.
    C. Also discussed ways to get better reponse on membership dues from adult players not involved with JTT.
    D. ATC made a donation to Pioneer Elementary school's raffle...2 youth racquets and a gift certificate for a future Jr. Tennis Camp in Jackson (TBD).

  2. JTT SPRING 09 REVIEW

Got input from coaches and formed some ideas for next season:
-discussed a "three strikes" warning system for kids with poor attendance, attitude or behavior. Coaches have the authority to discuss such problems with parents and ultimately remove a child whose behavior is bringing down the rest of the team.
-if begining team numbers are really lopsided on match days, consider switching a few kids just for the match to allow more even court time. This must be a mutual decision agreeable by both coaches and all parents.
-consider purchasing or borrowing pop-up tents to create some shade during matches
-beginning matches should be played before (and independent of) int and adv matches.
-give every child a "court conduct" handout to help educate kids and parents about court etiquette
-consider a League Director who is not a coach, then a coordinator (can be a coach) for each flight
-do awards and completion of each flight to minimize waiting
-posters showing draw and court assignments really help kids & parents find where they need to be on match day
-limit advanced and intermediate team size (4-6 max)
-create a mission statement at beginning of league to clarify that is a recreational league with the goal of learning tennis and having fun
-educate coaches about what behavior is expected from them

  3. PLANS FOR FALL 09 JTT SEASON

In addition to the above, here are some more details for Fall 09 season:
    A. Dates: mid-Sept to end of October. Matches will be SUNDAY afternoons to avoid coflicts with soccer.
    B. First league organizational meeting will happen in July (date TBD) with goal of opening registration for August and closing registration around Sept 1.
    C. We will not "demote" kids to a lower playing flight. There will be try-outs for children wanting to move up a level.
    D. We want to pay more attention to the Intermediate flight. DuCrays agreed to coach an Int. team, and Harold & Karie will return to coach Intermediates with the help of Matt Leach.
    E. Coaches may begin practices early, or double up on practices as needed if agreeable to parents.

  4. RAPID RALLY

Turnout was low this year; three boys will advance to Regionals. Benita is brainstorming some new ideas to help publicize the competition for next year.
